No, the setup is done officially through your Facebook account (without scanning a code). The connection is technical and secure.

Conversation system and billing method on WhatsApp API

Receiving messages is free regardless of the number of messages between you and the customer.
Free conversation: for 24 hours if you receive a message from the customer or reply to the customer's message.
After 24 hours with customers, you can target these customers with a free message for 72 hours.
Sending a message to start a conversation (paid).
If you have numbers data on an Excel sheet and prepared your message and send it, you are opening the conversation. In this case, you will pay its cost to WhatsApp/Meta directly on your invoice. There is no additional cost from our side on the message.

The price is variable and not fixed, depending on your number's quality, the message quality you sent, the customer engagement rate with your message, and its read rate.
